Actually it is a breakwater in Mexico down the road from our resort. It took a number of shots before I finally got this image, which works quite well (I think) in B & W.

Dreaming of Herself Dreaming

Portrait Thursdays

The one shot from my series of Liz that I did not originally post because I could not decide whether or not it was just too weird. I have never done a conscious and purposeful multiple exposure ever, and yet I have several multiples. They are always accidents. I was quite dismayed when I saw that I had shot these two on the same sheet of film because I was certain the messed-up Hémi pseudo-soft focus lens was going to produce a nice portrait of her. However, the fact that her eyes in each shot lined up almost perfectly makes this interesting as an accident. Thus, I submit it to your approval (or disapproval).

Day 5: A Hard-Earned Meal

This winter has been pretty brutal in Yellowstone. More so than normal, with a lot more snow and some extreme cold in recent weeks (it was -40F today... which happens to be -40C as well). The amount of snow in particular is making it more difficult for grazers to find food. This elk kicks away snow to get to some grub early this morning.

Spent a week in the Arctic Circle in Norway, specifically to see the Northern Lights and boy were they spectacular! We had cloud cover for most of the week and it was a bit hit and miss. I was beginning to think we were never going to see them but on the very last day, we struck gold!

It was very faint for most of the night (we spent almost 2hours outside in -20deg temperatures) but for a period of about 2mins, it went ballistic, which is when I shot this.

It was rather interesting shooting in such cold weather. After about 20mins, my camera lcd screens slowed down to the point where they were almost unusable so I pretty much had to get the settings right at the beginning and then hope and pray it works. Also, my tripod became almost impossible to adjust. It must have been something to do with the metal shrinking or something because the legs and handles became so stiff.

Norway's such an amazing place, I think we'll be heading back sooner rather than later.

Needs more noise work (my camera really doesn't handle noise too well) but I'm rather tired of looking at it now so this will have to do ;)

Enjoy!

Positano, Amalfi Coast - Italy [Explored]

TGIF Theme

Located on the Amalfi Coast, Positano is such a romantic and spectacular place, one of that places that you must see at least once in a life. I've been there 1 times few years ago, but I'm planning to go there again.

Be sure not to miss a delicious pizza in Sorrento and in all the area as it will be 1000 times better then the pizza you can eat elsewhere in central north Italy.

There are signs everywhere

Monochrome Monday's

Another one of my favorite seascape sign...well, my only seascape sign. I wish I could have seen the other side of the sign to see what it was all about. I'm guessing it just marks these rocks at higher tides, though maybe it is a Yield sign for seals and other wildlife? Perhaps they have a whole system of traffic control that we're not even aware of? Naw, probably not. :) Again, black and white suited this gray day best.

Found in Barnes & Noble. The book on the right was out of place, but for my purposes, it was placed just right. I just noticed the "Don'ts" book was published in 1913. If I can find the book again, I think I'll browse through it to see what the rules were way back then. I expect they've changed a bit...

I'm glad I went to The Mere. Nice misty overcast day, water fairly static, nice stroll.

Amphitheatre in Segesta - Sicily - Italy

Monthly Showcase

High up in a mountainous area towards the west of Sicily is the beautiful and frankly magical Segesta archaeological complex. Segesta was originally founded by the Elymian people, one of the native people of Sicily. They later integrated with the Greeks, making Segesta an important Classical town. It was later ruled by the Romans, but declined in importance before being finally abandoned in around the thirteenth century.

The 5th century BC Doric temple is truly magnificent as it rises out of the landscape, its golden stone reflecting and almost radiating light on a sunny day. Though never completed (it has always been roofless) it is one of the best-preserved examples of a Greek temple, and so for the ancient history or archaeology fan, it is unmissable.

Up on top of a nearby hill, Monte Barbaro, sitting at 400m above sea level is the semicircular theatre, built in 400BC. The wonderful views made stage scenery unnecessary as the surrounding countryside provided a natural backdrop to the action taking place on stage. Today, during the summer months, the theatre is used as a venue for Greek plays, concerts and other events.
